One of the problems that researchers encounter in the creation of robots is machine vision. Some of the most advanced robots use stereo vision which utilizes two cameras. These cameras give the robot depth perception while an image-recognition software allows it to locate and classify different kinds of objects.

However, due to the fact that a robot needs to be programmed with a specific image for it to recognize an object, an issue arises when the image it sees does not exactly correspond to the image it has in its programming. What scientists have done is to create a software that can identify points in an image that would look the same even when the object is moved or rotated.
